In recital at the Perelada Festival
On July 3, Joyce DiDonato opens the Perelada Festival with a recital featuring some of her most beloved repertoire, supported by her frequent collaborator, pianist Craig Terry. A renowned recitalist, Joyce has enjoyed high praise as a recitalist, with the Financial Times recently commenting, “Her lyric mezzo-soprano, now in its prime, offers an opulent palette of sounds: a lambent, gleaming top, ominously dark lower notes, everywhere beauty of tone.”
The eclectic program features Debussy’s sensual song cycle, Les chansons de Bilitis, as well as Alma Mahler’s Fünf Lieder and Haydn’s dramatic cantata, Arianna a Naxos. In the second half, the duo will present selections from Joyce’s operatic repertoire, including “Ombra mai fu” from Handel’s Xerxes, “Di tanti palpiti” from Rossini’s Tancredi, and the famous “Habanera” from Bizet’s Carmen.
