Mahler’s 'Rückert-Lieder' With Nézet-Séguin And The Met Orchestra

Joyce DiDonato joins Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Met Orchestra for three European performances featuring Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder alongside his Symphony No. 4. The tour programs also feature the late Kaija Saariaho’s Lumière et pesanteur (“Light and Gravity”) on August 27 at the Royal Albert Hall, and September 2 at The Philharmonie de Paris, as well as Missy Mazzoli’s Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) on August 30 at the Kultur-und Kongresszentrum Luzern (KKL).

Seen and Heard International has praised DiDonato for “approaching Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder as an inward drama rather than a display of vocal amplitude… keeping the phrasing focused and the emotion inward, most persuasively in the quietest passages where her voice took on a confidential intensity.” Similarly, BroadwayWorld lauded her performance, noting that her phrasing seemed to “suspend time itself, floating above the orchestra with a serenity that never became detached.”
