In March, Joyce DiDonato joins Konzerthaus Dortmund for their Curating Artist series, a program that invites a musician to design and shape a multi-day festival, featuring themselves and their closest friends and colleagues. Joyce will appear in an incredible seven events, as a soloist, teacher, and discussion partner.

On March 13, Joyce joins festival Artistic Director Raphael von Hoensbroech for an intimate discussion, sharing her favorite anecdotes, her musical background, and what audiences can expect from her curated festival.

Joyce will give a public masterclass on March 16, where she will work with the next generation of great singers, hand-picked from the most talented students at the music academies of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Joyce takes to the recital stage on March 18, with a unique perspective on Schubert’s Winterreise. Joined by Maxim Emelyanychev at the piano, she interprets Schubert’s famous song cycle from the perspective of the woman the wanderer left behind, reading a farewell letter from her beloved.

Joyce hosts a unique wellness concert on March 21. Audiences are invited to roll out their yoga mat on the stage, sit on a beanbag, take off their shoes, and make themselves comfortable while Joyce leads them through the music.

On March 22, Joyce joins the famed Il Pomo d’Oro orchestra, under the baton of Maxim Emelyanychev, for an exciting program featuring the music of W.A. Mozart and Rachel Portman. Her latest album, Eden, featured the world premiere of Portman’s song, “The First Morning of the World.” Now, the Oscar-winning film composer has expanded that project into a new song cycle, entitled “Another Eve,” written especially for Joyce’s Dortmund residency. In addition to this exciting world premiere, the orchestra will play two of Mozart’s greatest works: his glorious Symphony No. 1 and his triumphant “Jupiter” Symphony.

Joyce’s residency will continue on May 5, with a performance of Handel’s biblical oratorio, Jeptha, with the Il Pomo d’Oro choir and orchestra, under the baton of Francesco Corti. Michael Spyres sing the title role, with Joyce as his courageous wife, Storgé. Mélissa Petit sings Iphis, Cody Quattlebaum sings Zebul, and Jasmine White sings Hamor.
