Joyce DiDonato stars as Dido in concert performances of Henry Purcell’s timeless Dido and Aeneas on tour with Il Pomo d’Oro. With performances in Luxembourg, Spain, France, and Germany, the program will transport audiences through the rich tapestry of Baroque music, seamlessly blending sacred and secular narratives and offering a captivating exploration of the diverse and timeless beauty within the works of Carissimi and Purcell.

Carissimi’s Jephte unfolds the poignant biblical narrative of Jephthah, exploring the consequences of a solemn vow. The oratorio captures the emotional depth and complexity of the biblical tale through intricate choral and orchestral arrangements, played by the brilliant Il Pomo d’Oro Orchestra & Choir.

In contrast, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas weaves a tragic tale of love, betrayal, and destiny, centering around Dido, Queen of Carthage, and the heroic Aeneas. The English libretto and vibrant orchestrations bring the story to life, creating a powerful and engaging operatic experience.

Joyce shares the stage with Andrew Staples as Jephte and Aeneas, Fatma Said as Belinda, Beth Taylor as Sorceress, Hugh Cutting as Spirit, Carlotta Colombo as Filia and Second Woman, Massimo Altieri as Sailor, Alena Dantcheva as First Enchantress, and Anna Piroli as Second Enchantress. Maxim Emelyanychev conducts.
