Joyce DiDonato’s new recording of Schubert’s captivating Winterreise with conductor-pianist Yannick Nézet-Séguin is set to be released by Erato / Warner Classics on Friday, 23 April 2021. The brilliant duo first joined forces to take on one of Schubert’s most profound song cycles in December 2018, marking Joyce’s debut singing the work in its entirety. A year later, they reunited to perform the poignant work on tour, taking them to New York City’s Carnegie Hall, where this recording took place.

Their performances have garnered major critical acclaim, previously with the Independent Kansas City calling their recital an inspiring special event, “where you rarely get to see two musical superstars pull off a work of this magnitude,” and recently The Sunday Times:

“Few women sing Schubert’s desolate, passionate anti-odyssey of the rejected male lover, but when they do it can be memorable. Never more so than in this superb performance, where Nézet-Séguin is the perfect companion. DiDonato has a voice of rare beauty, but even more heartbreaking than the loveliness of her singing is her endlessly varied dramatic colouring of the text. Incomparable.”
