Joyce DiDonato wins third Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album
Joyce DiDonato’s dazzling album Songplay, released by Erato, has earned the 2020 Grammy Award for “Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.” This marks Ms. DiDonato’s third Grammy win. She previously won a Grammy for her album Divo/Diva in 2012 and Joyce and Tony: Live in Wigmore Hall in 2016. Songplay unites world-class musicians from the varied worlds of opera, jazz, and tango in the pure pleasure of improvisation, experimentation, and exchange. Together they create their own musical language, surprising listeners with timeless melodies transformed and universal stories retold over centuries; songs in English, in Italian and – naturally – in the universal language of music.
In June 2020, Joyce takes Songplay on a European tour to the Cologne, Dortmund, and London. More information and purchase links for the album are available via Joyce’s Recordings.
“This album deserves to be heard by anyone who admires exceptional singing and instrumental craftsmanship, whether in opera, jazz, or popular music.” -Dailymail
I’m deeply honored for this recognition by the @RecordingAcad, and as I said in my speech NOW is the time for artists to write the songs and play the songs that will bring joy and light and truth into our lives. #playwiththatsong
