Joyce DiDonato named "Female Singer of the Year" by OPUS KLASSIK
Joyce DiDonato has been named “Female Singer of the Year” for her new album “Songplay” by OPUS KLASSIK. “Songplay” unites world-class musicians from the varied worlds of opera, jazz, and tango in the pure pleasure of improvisation, experimentation, and exchange. Together they create their own musical language, surprising listeners with timeless melodies transformed and universal stories retold over centuries; songs in English, in Italian and – naturally – in the universal language of music. The OPUS KLASSIK is the new prize for classical music in Germany. Last year, Joyce was awarded OPUS KLASSIK’s Operneinspielung des Jahres (Opera recording of the year) for her recording of Berlioz’s Les Troyens. This year, the official ceremony will take place for the second time at Konzerthaus Berlin on October 13 and will be broadcast on ZDF.
“This album holds a very special place in my heart and we had an absolute blast recording it. Huge thank you to OPUS KLASSIK for this honor and congratulations to all the other award recipients. I’m so proud to be a part of the classical music family which aims to bring beauty, truth, and reflection into the world.” – Joyce DiDonato
