Recital at the George Enescu Festival

Joyce DiDonato and pianist David Zobel travel to Bucharest for a recital at the George Enescu Music Festival on September 2. For the recital, Joyce will sing arias and songs by Haydn, Mozart, Bellini, Luna, Rossini, Berlioz, and Hahn. Ms. DiDonato and Zobel are long-time collaborators who have presented recitals all over the world. Their collaborations have garnered acclaim many times, receiving critical praise from Opera News for Ms. DiDonato’s debut recital at Carnegie Hall:

“Among the afternoon’s other considerable riches was a thoroughly charming and joyful set by Cécile Chaminade, including the consummately Gallic “Viens! Mon bien-aimé!” and ending with “L’été,” a virtuoso showpiece. The final scheduled number, Vincenzo di Chiara’s “La spagnola,” gave DiDonato an opportunity to vamp it up, which she seized eagerly, much to the delight of the crowd. Encores included more Rossini (“Tanti affetti,” from Donna del Lago, whose virtuoso variations DiDonato cheerfully whipped through); “Je suis gris,” from Massenet’s Chérubin; and “Over the Rainbow,” which obviously held deep meaning for this proud Kansas native.
