Joyce DiDonato tours ‘Songplay’ across the United States with Craig Terry
Joyce DiDonato’s new album, Songplay, released worldwide on February 1 by Erato, will tour across the country from February 18 to March 4. A program that showcases her playful side with songs from her recent recording, Joyce and a versatile five-piece ensemble of drums, bass, bandoneon, and trumpet, led by pianist and arranger Craig Terry, gather for performances of Italian Baroque arias, jazz ballads, and songs from the American Songbook.
“We have essentially created our own sound-world, fusing together music from the Baroque era and classics from the jazz world – with a few other surprises tossed in,” explains Joyce. “We’ve all let down our guard (some of us have even let down our hair) and we’ve each expanded the musical traditions that we have come from to create our own style for this program. It’s joyful, it’s exuberant, it celebrates great music, and it shines a spotlight on the timeless nature of a great song.”
The tour program will feature music by composers like Giordani, Caccini, Porter, Ellington, and more. Tour dates include February 18 at the Seattle Symphony in Seattle, WA; February 20 at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, CA; February 25 at the Schubert Club in St. Paul, MN; February 27 at Finney Chapel in Oberlin, OH; March 1 at Jordan Hall in Boston, MA, and concluding on March 4 at the Appel Room in New York, NY.
