Joyce DiDonato’s portrayal of American diva Arden Scott in Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s Great Scott has received a Grammy nomination. Nominated in the category of “Best Contemporary Classical Composition”, the opera, which premiered in January of 2018 at the Dallas Opera, shares the story of the 21st century opera diva:

“Arden Scott returns to her hometown to save the struggling company that launched her career. The opening night performance of the long-lost opera she discovered falls on the same night as the home team’s first National Championship game (Go, Grizzlies!). The fate of the company hangs in the balance as Arden discovers that greatness is truly a matter of heart.”

Described by Ms. DiDonato as “a generous, melodic love letter to the world of opera and art,” she shares the nomination with fellow colleagues including Michael Mayes, Rodell Rosel, Kevin Burdette, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Nathan Gunn, Frederica von Stade, and Ailyn Pérez. Patrick Summers conducts. The album, released by Erato Records, is available for purchase via Joyce’s Recordings.
