Debut as Didon in ‘Les Troyens’ at Wiener Staatsoper
Joyce DiDonato makes her highly anticipated staged debut as Didon in Berlioz’ Les Troyens at the Wiener Staatsoper. This new production is directed by Sir David McVicar and Alain Altinoglu conducts the Orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper and the Chorus of the Wiener Staatsoper. Ms. DiDonato has received great acclaim for her portrayal of this role, recently winning Recording of the Year in the 2018 Gramophone Classical Music Awards for Erato/Warner Classics’ Les Troyens recording with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg led by John Nelson.
“If only Berlioz had lived to hear this… Joyce DiDonato sings her first Didon with a persistent sense of intense vulnerability – her final monologue is a heart-rending exposure of a soul in despair.” (The Daily Telegraph)
After almost 40 years, Les Troyens returns to the Wiener Staatsoper for performances on October 14, 17, 21, 26, & November 1, 4. The production features a sparkling roster of artists including Brandon Jovanovich as Enée, Adam Plachetka as Chorèbe, Peter Kellner as Panthée, Jongmin Park as Narbal, Paolo Fanale as Iopas, Rachel Frenkel as Ascagne, Anna Caterina Antonacci as Cassandre, and Szilvia Vörös as Anna. This monumental opera will be broadcasted by Radio Ö1 (+ EBU) on October 20, starting at 19:30, and on November 4 it will be broadcast worldwide by Wiener Staatsoper “live at home”.
