Müpa Magazine interviews Joyce DiDonato about her passion for baroque music and much more during her In War & Peace tour throughout Europe.

Baroque music seems to have a special place in its heart. What is it for?

“I like the purity of music, the depth of emotions, and the freedom of decoration that the music of this era requires of the singer. This music always fills deep, clear emotions, but in a way that is new and fresh for each performance.

If you had the opportunity to go on time, what time would you choose as an opera singer and which person as a private person?

“As an opera singer, I would very much like to go back to Händel’s time, hoping to write me an opera! As a private person, I would be happy to return to the 1930s to hear Ella Fitzgerald sing in her first public show.”
