Mozart's 'La Clemenza di Tito' at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden

On July 6 & 9, Joyce DiDonato sings Sextus as part of a starry cast for the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden’s 2017 Gala, highlighting Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito in concert, in collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon for a future CD release.

Rolando Villazón is Titus Vespasianus, Sonya Yoncheva sings Vitellia, Regula Mühlemann is Servilia, Tara Erraught is Annius, and Adam Plachetka is Publius, in performances accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and RIAS Kammerchor. Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads from the podium for both dates.

Programme Notes: In the 19th century, Mozart’s The Clemency of Titus was the composer’s most popular opera alongside The Magic Flute. Why? Because with it Mozart opened the door to a new world. We feel the spirit of Romanticism wafting in like a gentle breeze – these are completely new tones being accompanied by the delicate clarinet sounds. Once again we have gathered together the best Mozart voices of our time alongside Rolando Villazón, who is guaranteed to put his unique stamp on the performances.
