Role debut as ‘Semiramide’ in Munich

Joyce DiDonato begins the New Year with a greatly anticipated debut, in the title role of Rossini’s Semiramide. She sings the role at Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper in a new production by David Alden, on February 12, 15, 18, 23 & 26 and March 3. Ms. DiDonato will also reprise her portrayal as part of the venue’s summer Opernfestspiele, with additional performances on July 21 & 24. Please note the February 12 & 18 dates are now sold-out, with limited tickets remaining for all other shows; the premiere will also receive a live broadcast via BR-Klassik, and the February 26 performance will be streamed LIVE via Staatsoper.tv.

The cast includes tenor and frequent collaborator Lawrence Brownlee as Idreno and mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcellona as Arsace, with Michele Mariotti leading the Bayerisches Staatsorchester.

Exiting news, for I just saw that the Bavarian State Opera will livestream for free Rossini’s Semeramide on Sunday February 26, 2017. European starting time 17:00 PM. I don’t know if this livestream is also available outside Europe!

Excuse, for in my enthusiasm I wrote the name of Rossini’s opera wrong. It is, of course,

    S E M I R A M I D E

I could not believe my luck when I got 2 tickets for February 18th. It’s going to be a fabulous experience to hear you in as Semiramide. I have been to many of your opening nights usually at Covent Garden, the memorable Il Barbiere di Saviglia and a favourite of mine La Donna del Lago.
