Joyce DiDonato revisits one of her signature roles this winter in Barcelona, as the title character in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda. This impressive co-production from the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Royal Opera House – Covent Garden, Polish National Opera, and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées features striking visuals combining new world, minimalistic sets and projections with old world-inspired costumes. Performances take place December 19, 23, 27 & 30, and January 2, 8 & 10.

Joyce is joined by an acclaimed cast of colleagues for this production, including tenor Javier Camarena as Roberto, hot on the heels of their “beguiling” (New York Times) pairing at The Metropolitan Opera in Rossini’s La Cenerentola.

Ms. DiDonato was most recently seen as Maria Stuarda last July at Covent Garden, which critics heralded as a “transcendent” and “miraculous” performance. A DVD of her Maria Stuarda from The Metropolitan Opera is also available on Amazon – she is the first singer in Met history to take on the title role.
