The ECHO Klassik award is the German equivalent of the American Grammy Award and is presented by the Deutsche Phonoakademie, the cultural institute of the German Music Industry Association (BVMI). According to BVMI CEO Dieter Gorny, “Since 1992 the award ceremony of the German music award ECHO is one of the highlights of the music year,” he continued, “It is the acknowledgement of the great creative works. Being nominated means already to belong to the top artists. From rather modest beginnings the German music-award ECHO developed during the years into a worldwide recognized award.”

The 17th annual ECHO Klassik Awards will be held on October 17, 2010 at the home of the Essen Philharmonic in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Joyce is joined by tenor Jonas Kauffmann as the Male Singer of the Year, and will appear live on German Television on October 17, hosted by Thomas Gottschalk.
